Product Description Why is it that even though we might maintain our high school weight, few of us maintain our high school belt size?
In your twenties and thirties, the layers of fat on top of your abs were the problem–but once you reach middle-age, the enemy shifts. The 6-Week Cure for the Middle-Aged Middle is the first book to deal specifically with the issues we face in the next stage of life, providing a plan for eliminating the unhealthy fat that accumulates around the organs–visceral fat–that is the true cause of the middle-aged bulge.
The good news is that with the right diet, visceral fat can be quickly reduced and eliminated, enhancing both your looks and your health. Even after twenty years researching and refining the science of weight loss and management, bestselling authors Drs. Michael and Mary Dan Eades fell victim to the middle-aged middle themselves. Although otherwise fit and healthy, both lost the flat belly that signals youth. In The 6-Week Cure for the Middle-Aged Middle, they share the simple dietary program they created to shed the weight.
Discover: • How eating saturated fat can actively trim your middle • Why the “eat less, exercise more” prescription fails–and what to do about it • Why “inner” and “outer” tube fat measurements are important to your health • How to fight the fat stored inside your liver that leads to hard-to-lose middle-body flab
With The 6-Week Cure for the Middle-Aged Middle the doctor duo that brought you to the low-carb lifestyle shows you how to regain in midlife the figure of sleek, flat-bellied youth.

Offers hope to middle-aged readers with unique needs and exercise abilities November 17, 2009 Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) The Six Week Cure for the Middle-Aged Middle offers hope to middle-aged readers with unique needs and exercise abilities, sharing the author's new patient-proven program for shedding fat and becoming more youthful. Most books promote eliminating fat on top of abs: middle age is different though, and this book offers a different approach. Any general lending library will find it a popular pick.
Losing It! November 3, 2009 Memaw 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great book! My husband and I have been doing what the book says and have lost 8 pounds in 3 1/2 weeks. Feel better and losing inches.
Great for the intended purpose November 1, 2009 Ehleighen (Twin Cities, MN) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
There are lots of negative reviews on this book - those are from morons that didn't understand the point of this book. If you want a long-term eating plan to lose weight and be healthy, then stick with Protein Power or Atkins. However if you've got a special event coming up that you want to lose weight FAST, then this is for you - that was the whole purpose of this book. I lost 8 pounds and one inch off the waist in the first week, can't wait to see what the next 5 weeks brings!
The "slim fast" diet has already been done. November 1, 2009 Sally Lunn (United States) Anything that claims to be a "cure" in 6-weeks is disingenuous. People who need to lose weight, whether it be in their middle or anywhere, need to change their lifestyle with a sustainable diet. Period. This book is flimsy. I read it in the bookstore on a lunch break and thankfully didn't buy it. There is nothing revolutionary about it. You cut calories by drinking artificially flavored, synthetic protein shakes for two weeks and then basically go on an Atkins diet for two weeks. There is some talk about "liver cleansing" without much medical evidence that this is even beneficial or possible to do through supplementation. Even if it were, I'm guessing the toxic load of artificially sweetened drinks and refined oils that he recommends would make any detoxification impossible. A low-carb diet that is rich in REAL, nutrient dense foods like grass fed meats, wild fish, and organic fruits and vegetables is all the body needs to survive and thrive.
Liked previous books, not this one October 24, 2009 Gerald Brainum (Santa Monica, California United States) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I thought the Protein Power book by the Eades was a good read, but I can't say the same for this one. I'm a science writer myself, and take great care to proof read my material for possible errors. As such, I was surprised by a passage in the book that stated that insulin increases sex-hormone binding globulin (SHBG). In fact, just the opposite is true, and this has been known for a long time. It's an egregious error, and after reading it, I lost interest in the book. This isn't nitpicking, because if you read the book, you'll find that the Eades base an entire negative sequence of events on this insulin/SHBG relationship that just doesn't happen in actuality. There is no excuse for such poor research or lack of editing on the part of the authors, who as medical doctors should know better.
