This book is a real wonder of the animation art. Deep knowledge of how to bring our drawings & sketches to life. A must have/read/enjoy book for sure!

5 out of 5 stars Essential   August 23, 2009

Not just a book with pictures. It's a full compendium of the Disney classes that Stanchfield gave to us. Just not forget to buy the book 1 too.

This is a great theory book. I thought the book would enphasize the drawings, but I think the drawings are small and low resolution....Great for animation tips and theory.

5 out of 5 stars A 'must' for both film and art libraries   June 15, 2009
Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA)
Any library strong in animation or drawing history in general or Disney in particular needs DRAWN TO LIFE. It offers the Walt Stanchfield lectures for the first time in a two-volume gathering of legendary lectures from the long-time Disney animator. For over twenty years Walt Stanchfield lead Disney and influenced rising young illustrators: his writings for animation artists and film pros alike offer valuable insights for any students new to animation and is a 'must' for both film and art libraries. Volume 1 and V. 2 each pack in legendary lectures not to be missed by any serious art library.

5 out of 5 stars Tremendously Inspiring, Informative, and Instructive:)   May 28, 2009
J. Ferguson
This series of books by Walt Stanchfield has been one of the most thought-provoking and inspiring works that I have read in a very long time. Reading this book always makes me want to draw. I can't count how many times a sentence or lesson has sparked my imagination and given me cause to break out the pencils once again. I am not an animator, but I really enjoy drawing from life. Walt's instruction has really helped make those life drawing experiences more fulfilling and challenging. I would definitely recommend this book to any artist that loves/likes to draw. It has been compared to "The Natural Way to Draw" - the best drawing handbook ever written. While Master Classes is less structured (no instructions to "draw for 3 hours"), it definitely deserves to be in a class with "The Natural Way to Draw." It really is that good.
