One Small Error November 16, 2009 Stephan Bianchi (Santa Cruz, CA) On p.215 of this book, Box incorrectly identifies the markings on a zip cord. The ribbed side should be neutral. (I read only this part, as I was looking for the answer to this one question. The other sources contradicted Box on this.)
Everything you need to know about lighting for film October 11, 2009 Tark Mwain (Chi town) Basically the Lighting Bible. A necessary resource for anyone seriously studying lighting, griping, set electric etc..
Excellent Glossary September 14, 2009 Sonia K. (SAT, USA) If you need a quick reffrence to the jarg, this book is good for that.
Great for those already in the industry August 12, 2009 Dutchtown (San Juan, Puerto Rico) This book is great for those people already involved in the industry who want to really refine their skills and get to know in DETAIL all of the different lights and their uses on the day of shooting. I don't think this a really good book for beginner's because a lot of information is thrown at you at once. Box, goes in-depth with his explanantions and I found myself getting bored when reading about all the different lights and such. Even in the language that Box uses to explain certain terms, I found other terms within those explanations that needed explaining as well. It's not really a production style book, more a gaffer's book, hence SET LIGHTING TECHNICIAN'S guide...
But, all in all this guy knows his stuff and can definitely be trusted when it comes to his knowledge of lighting.
Greatest Film Electrician Guide Ever. February 6, 2009 Stephen BRESLIN (West Chester, PA) This book continues to be one of the greatest resources a D.P., Gaffer, Best Boy or Electrician could ever ask for. I continue to read and reread this handbook and learn and understand more and more about film lighting and technique.
Whether you are an experienced gaffer or an apprenticing electrician, this book is the first step to gaining a professional knowledge of film lights, distribution and practice!
Stephen Q. Breslin
