5 out of 5 stars A top pick for any Photoshop Elements 7 user!   October 18, 2009
Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA)
The DVD/book package Adobe Photoshop Elements 7: Maximum Performance shows how to produce professional-quality image editing without the need to upgrade to the more expensive, weighty and full version of Photoshop. Real-world projects are presented in step-by-step tutorials on editing techniques and using all facets of the program, from Camera Raw to optimize photos to channels, motion blur and other image-enhancing techniques. The DVD offers over 7 hours of movie tutorials, JPEG, and plug-in photo effects, among other elements. A top pick for any Photoshop Elements 7 user!

5 out of 5 stars Great for Intermediate Users   September 21, 2009
A. Wall (Sequim, WA)
I consider myself an intermediate user of photoshop elements. This book is a great mix of basic and intermediate steps to use photoshop elements efficiently. Especially for those of us unwilling to shell out the $$ for the full version of photoshop, this gives nice tricks for getting professional results. The CD is chock full of extras. The cost of this book threw me at first but it's worth it. Much better than free tutorials you can find online. Also... I didn't find anything that you can't use on Photoshop Elements 6 so don't worry if you haven't upgraded.

4 out of 5 stars Informative   June 30, 2009

So far, I have found this book to be a very informative and helpful in my quest to learn photoshop techniques. It is divided into chapters nicely and explains the subject matter pretty good. I have not had a chance to use much of the bonus material yet, like the video lessons. Installing the video lessons and the actions is easy. Finding it in your computer to use while in photoshop elements is a little tricky and I'm still working on that. Overall, though, this is a pretty good learning tool.

5 out of 5 stars You can do it with Elements!   May 21, 2009

Mark Galer had my attention in his introduction. You can do advanced editing with Elements and the program provides the tools most photographers will ever need. He then goes through and proves his point with a series sophisticated exercises that you would think you could only do in Photoshop. There are lots of bonus tips, Element actions, and tutorials on the accompanying DVD. Nice graphics, excellent examples, it is definitely worth a read.

1 out of 5 stars Galer's "witticisms" don't save his incompetence   May 18, 2009

I would point to this book as an example of how NOT to write an educational volume. Galer's obvious delight in his own "humorous
phrases" makes this book practically useless. They lead to so many obscurantist passages, it's a wonder anyone ever gleans much of anything from his text. So often "this image .." is written, and not one clue is given as to which of the three images under discussion he is referring to. I cannot believe that any proofreader ever examined this book before it went to press. He also has this really bad habit of introducing objects, for example, level sliders and then within two sentences referring to them by altogether different names. The incompetence is truly astounding.
It's a wonder that my copy of his Photoshop book has not been ripped to shreds - it certainly deserved to be. I seldom have issues with writers who aren't quite up to snuff and fail in their explanatory text, but Galer does so all the while apparently self convinced that his humor
is advancing the reader's cause. Might I suggest to his publisher to assign someone with educational text experience as Galer's editor and start chopping out large blocks of his "witticisms" and demanding Galer to explain EXACTLY what he's trying to say. As an educational tool, this book is an utter disgrace.
