I'm using this to help me get through Med Surg 1! October 2, 2009 J. Leggett 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The reason I bought this book was because I could never finish the reading for my med surg class(due to the fact that the chapters are way too long and I have to study for my other classes). I read this book for the particular section we were covering for the test and I got a B(almost an A). What I really love about this book is how it is broken up into sections of each particular body system and breaks down the diseases on how you should learn it. The way you need to learn a diseases in order to be successful in any nursing class is the etiology, clinical manifestations, therapeutic management and client teaching. This books does that.
It also has NCLEX questions and a CD. They really help you think like a nurse and where it matters the most , the test you have to take in class and during NCLEX exams! So I highly recommend this book if you cannot get through your med surg book or need an extra resource of understanding the material because it really does help out.
great book May 26, 2009 B. J. Tenney (SLC, UT USA) book exactly as described with cd included - great book for studying for the nclex
Excellent nursing school resource May 7, 2009 E. Hanneman (Sonoran Desert, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is my favorite NCLEX book (I also have Saunders and Kaplan) as it is so well-organized, replete with necessary info, and offers rationales for the NCLEX-style question and answer sets.
It offers more background than Saunders which I need at this stage. --I just finished my first semester of nursing school. If I could only buy one NCLEX book, this would be it. The included CD is excellent (allows immediate review after answering questions).
I just scored a 98.4% on the HESI. I think this book helped. I also have Mary Ann Hogan's Pathophysiology: Reviews & Rationales. Another book that helped me was a pharmacology book by Richard Lehne.
My only criticism of the Hogan NCLEX book: this book contains some material that is beyond me right now. It is heavy to carry around. --But I know it will serve me well as the semesters pass.
Lots of info, but... April 14, 2009 Yolanda Sommers (Everett, WA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was excited to get this book because it came highly recommended by my nursing instructor. The book does have a TON of information in its 1450+ pages, but I have some problems with it.
* It doesn't contain many illustrations or charts
* I have found many errors both in the book and on the CD
* The CD repeats a lot of questions even though it has over 5000 on it
* I wish it would but the diseases together with the drug treatments to avoid flipping from chapter to chapter
Overall, it's a pretty good book and has every piece of info on everything imaginable. If you are a visual learner like me though, you probably won't like it.
CD-ROM not working for Mac users March 20, 2009 Jess TX (Texas United States) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am sure this book will be great, if CD-ROM works. I purchased this book because I wanted to use CD-ROM. I am a Mac user, and CD-ROM does not work on Mac. I've been contacting Pearson support desk for a while. Their response is "I'm sorry your CD-ROM does not work on Mac, so you need to use other system." If they know this does not work on Mac, they should state so. It is frustrating.
