| Customer Reviews: Completely worthless November 9, 2009 Roger (St, Louis, MO) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I find this book worthless. The explanations rarely go into much more detail than the answers in the back of the text. I found that help on the internet is much more helpful and cheaper, even if you have to sign up for a paid help service. Save money and don't buy this book.
Best Solution Manual I've Ever Seen October 17, 2009 John McCormick (61°12' N, 149°49' W) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This thick solution manual contains:
1. Fully explained (wordy even) solutions to odd numbered problems
2. Fully explained (wordy even) solutions to odd numbered end of chapter supplementary exercises
3. Concise answers to chapter review questions.
4. 11 page Guide to writing proofs.
5. By chapter common mistakes list and suggested ways to overcome them.
6. By chapter sample tests with all solutions provided.
7. By chapter crib sheets with definitions, terms, explanations.
This is by far the most complete solution manual of any kind of text I have ever seen. It is obvious the author wants people to learn discrete math. Using the text and the solution manual you could teach yourself DIscrete Mathematics, and you would not have to be particularly good at math or programming to start.
I had this book for a discrete math class many years ago in a CS program. It was a tough class. What I did learn, I got from this text/sol manual. Now I'm in a proofs class years later with a miserably useless text with none of the features above. I'm now relying on the Rosen text and solution manual, which seems like an oasis of information in comparison.
Can be helpful March 14, 2009 B. Workman (Michigan) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
Most Student Solution Guides are nothing but a way for the publisher to sell another book. I generally don't purchase them because they usually contain the same answers that are given in the back of the textbook. This guide gives more details about how the answers were computed. If you find Discrete Mathematics difficult, then this may be a worthwhile purchase. I wanted to use every resource I could. There are free internet math tutorial sites that are invaluable resources for the more difficult areas of Discrete Mathematics. The Solutions guide was an additional resource that I found helpful.
I should point out that I get reimbursed for the books I use for college courses. Even if the money came out of my pocket I believe I would find this a worthwhile investment when compared to the tuition cost of the course.
review of discrete math solutions guide February 17, 2008 Etienne Lawlor 27 out of 48 found this review helpful
the book contains only solutions to odd problems. i wanted the solutions to both odd and even. i wish that the product details said that they were only to the odd problems. i am very pissed off.
