Great for getting started as a writer July 28, 2009 Jollygreen (Florida) This book is fantastic, especially for kids who want to someday be published. She gives great tools and writing exercises that provide practice. This book is ideal for rising authors who are just beginning, but for the more serious writer, I think Holly Lisle's How to Think Sideways is the best writer's resource money can buy.

Wonderfully Helpful and Fun! July 11, 2009 The Compulsive Reader (Big Rapids, MI, USA) This book is geared towards younger readers, but even I was able to get a lot of good stuff out of it. It's filled with tons of insight, advice, encouragement, and writing fun that really motivates you and gets you excited about writing. I used some sections of it with my writing class, and the kids thought it was very helpful. I definitely recommend this book for any kids or teens who are writers and hope to one day be published!
Great Helper May 18, 2009 Evelyn K. Jennigs This is a great book to help pull out you inner writer. Fun and fast exersise gets right to the point.
Advice was child like, and it didn't help a lot April 8, 2009 AM (GA USA) 1 out of 7 found this review helpful
Now when I was reading the Writing Magic book I just knew that the advice was not very good and the book was not entertaining. The only fun part was when you made the character portfolio, and that was it. The advice was not useful and it was geared more towards kids ages 10 and under than real authors. If you want to get a book about writing fantasy get a book from an author that doesn't focus mainly on unuseful advice. Plus she is constantly advertising her books.
No intimidation February 16, 2009 M. Carlisle (Deep in the Heart of Texas) I purchased this book for my daughter--who has loved all the books she has read that were written by Gail Carson Levine.
But when she saw that Ms. Levine had written a book about writing, well Katy bar the door, she HAD to have this book.
It's written to help anyone with writing. And just about any type of writing. There are sections to help with plot development, characters, dialog etc.
It's helpful for many different levels, and it's all readily accessible.
My wife and a friend have both used the book as writing prompts for children.
Writing is hard for many people; this book helps break down the barriers.
Highly recommened for ANY writer.
