My now 18mo old has been playing with this toy consistently (it is rotated with other toys) for the last few months. What I like about it is that the shapes truly DO hold the dowels snugly, so she isn't pounding them all the way through, and I'm not having to deal with yet more loose toy parts. She'll hammer the dowel down and then flip the shape over and start again. Basic but fun.
