Product Description Ten sturdy chipboard blocks feature whimsical, charming animal illustrations by Eric Carle, and can be used for nesting, stacking and teaching counting skills. Each block is dedicated to a different animal printed with a number form 1-10, the animal's name, the animal's sound, a tactile panel, a movable part, or a rattle. Excellent for parent-child interaction and helps develop motor skills.

| Customer Reviews: Looks nice, but not a great toy for the price September 7, 2009 kjs I know we're all suckers for Eric Carle. Why else spend $20-something dollars on a toy like this? But seriously, these blocks look great. They're cute and have textures on each one and the great vocabulary words from the "Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?" book.
They stack up quite high, which is exciting for the child (to knock down).
My son got these when he was about 10 months old. He really liked the blocks for stacking and for putting into each other when they're upside down. He's almost 2 now and still plays with them on occasion.
Here's what's happened in the intervening 11 or so months:
1)Elephant's ear torn off
2)Hippo's mouth torn off
3)Flamingo's water (which is a plastic overlay) torn off
4)puke stain on the polar bear's fur (which you can't clean well due to cardboard)
5)smallest cube (walrus) nearly destroyed from chewing (had to take away for awhile)
6)Lion's mane (which looks just like a potato chip) is very scratched up
7)Overall condition pretty poor, but blocks still functional
The paperboard material of these blocks is inherently not built to last. It's a material which does not hold up well to water or moisture of any kind (whether it comes out of your child, from a spilled beverage, or from a cleaning rag). The pictures are great, but they show wear very quickly - especially as this is the type of toy which is intended to be knocked over again and again.
I think there is a very small perimeter of space from one block to the next. They are basically too close in size to each other and it makes it difficult to stack them. It is especially hard for a young child. The blocks fall (unintentionally) if you aren't very precise about their placement.
Ryan's Room makes a wooden stacking block set which is well made and better for young children. Amazon sells it too and it's not a lot more than this Eric Carle set. Only it doesn't have "braying zebras" or "yelping peacocks" so what can you do?
Dashiell's Mom January 13, 2009 J. Clark (California) These are beautifully designed and durable enough for my one year old. He's not chewing so much these days. But, the blocks weren't well designed for small children with the movable parts. As soon as he found the elephant ears and the hippo mouth they were goners. I decided to glue them down. Flat ears and a stationary mouth are more educational that no ears and only half of a mouth. It seems like the manufacturer should have figured that out. And, the spelling error is really sloppy.
should be sturdier and proofread February 7, 2008 Mrs. Yasmeen A. Pattie (Port Washington, NY United States) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
the blocks are as beautiful as the books, to be sure. But:
1. the blocks are pretty cheap/flimsy (surprising for how much they cost)
2. the images are stuck on a little clumsily
3. the "attachments" (ears on elephant, mouth on hippo) are fragile and can easily be torn off
4. THERE IS A SPELLING MISTAKE -- hippopatamus?? You've got to be kidding.
I would really have expected more from an Eric Carle product, all the rest of which my son loves dearly.
Baby STILL Loves these . . . August 12, 2007 Elizabeth A. Mccabe (Virginia) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
My 14 month old son has had these for awhile now and still plays with them almost every day. They are so versatile and colorful and he loves the different textures, especially the fuzzy polar bear block. I agree with the other reviewer though, if your baby is a chewer, these aren't the best. I took away the smallest block (which he loved because it has a rattle inside) because he was basically eating it and the cardboard was dissolving. The bigger blocks have been a big hit though. These would make a great gift too, because they are so pretty.
Very cute May 7, 2007 Hil (Massachusetts) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We get lots of compliments on these blocks from other parents because they are so beautiful, and the textures are great. The only problem is they're a bit fragile, since they're made from cardboard. Not good if your baby likes to chew on things!
